The next generation of sustainable energy technology could be built from some low-tech materials: rocks!!! Using a new approach known as concentrated solar energy, heat from the sun is stored and then used to dry food or generate electricity. A team found that some samples of soapstone and granite from Tanzania were well suited to storing this solar heat, having high energy densities and stability even at high temperatures.
